5 out of 5 stars Exactly what we wanted   June 21, 2008
This wireless system was just what we wanted. We've been using it for just about three years, and it is working wonderfully. It annoys me that the company has specialized and sometimes expensive batteries, but you can find them on line at a discount.

I am sorry to hear that some are having problems with or don't like the unit. Our Golden Retriever (Blondi) was a pleasure to train, and the sessions were complete within about a week. I still test the perimeter once or twice a year, and it's kind of funny to see her jump back when the warning beep sounds with the collar in my hand. She is on the 3/6 setting. I tested it on my hand at that setting, and it does give you a nice zap!

If you are just starting, don't neglect to use the training flags, as they help both you and the pet.

Overall as I mentioned, we are very happy with it, and it was much cheaper than paying to get the wires buried. Our one an only estimate for that was > $1500.

4 out of 5 stars Know what you are buying...   June 20, 2008
I've had this product for about a month and am very happy with it. Before you buy, realize that you will not be able to maximize your yard space. Most yards are of a rectangular nature, and this system sets up a radius from the control unit. Your actual space will be some part of an arc/semi-circle (or a complete circle). MEASURE YOUR YARD before you buy - figure out where you will plug in the unit (it really should be indoors) and measure out a radius from this point. The unit does have a bit of fluctuation in the "safe zone" - the manufacturer says to allow as much as 10% (influenced by weather and slope mostly). So once you set the perimeter, you may find that it varies by a couple of feet from day to day. I have found that this is not a big deal, my dog knows her "area" even if it is not exact. Make sure you have AT LEAST A WEEK to devote to training (three 10-15 sessions per day) before you leave the dog. Keeping these limitations in mind, plus the fact that there is no "low battery" indicator, the system works very well, and I highly recommend it. Unfortunately, my dog chewed the collar the first week, but the electronic receiver can be re-mounted to other collars. I would have rated the system 5 stars, but customer service was less than stellar. One of the plastic washers broke off within the first month, and Petsafe wanted to SELL me a replacement kit with this part for $14!

5 out of 5 stars This one really works!   June 16, 2008

I have had this system for many years and cannot say enough good about it. This unit contains my German shepherds easily. The new collars with the batteries that flash when they are getting low are an added bonus. This is much better than the buried wire, because you can dial in your area and also take it with you when you travel. I have known dogs to break through the buried ones because they know that they're shocked once and then they're free. This one shocks them when they get out of range of the transmitter. After a while you don't even need the shock; they'll stop when they hear the beep. I recommend this to anyone who is having problems keeping their dogs contained.

1 out of 5 stars A Nightmare   June 14, 2008
I did my research before I bought this product. I read the reviews on various sites and even spoke with people who LOVED theirs. Okay I was convinced. I bought it and an extra collar as I have two dogs. I also bought extra batteries. I received the package and read the directions thoroughly before I broke open the collar and got ready to figure out my boundary... It was awful! The collar was erratic.. sometimes it would beep other times I could go anywhere and it would not make a sound. I changed the battery thinking that was the problem. It appeared to work a bit better and I found the perfect spot for the transmitter. It did take me a while to get the boundaries. The collar was on and off and I was in denial. I WANTED this to work so I forged on... I finally got the flags up and was excited to put the collar on my dog. First flag he passed he got the shock ( it was on 2 but he sure did care!) I thought it was great and he was already starting to avoid the flags. We started to go to the other flags and he could walk right through. There seemed to be*pockets* that were not effected by the wireless system. I called a friend that has this system and she came over to help me out. She couldn't believe how it was not working. She was even touching the contacts and wasn't getting shocked. We were all over the yard and passed the flags, At this point I was frustrated and packed the whole thing up and sent it back. I am so disappointed. I don't even know if I want to get another and try again. I am afraid it just is the signal in my yard and not the device.. I don't have the money to install an underground wireless fence... but I do have a e collar and flags.. SO i think for now I will teach my dogs the boundaries using that
I just wish I was one of the people that this product worked for

4 out of 5 stars Dog Fence   May 28, 2008
I was at the end of my rope. The dog needed to be hooked up on a runner to go outside and everytime we hooked her up she would pee in the house. Now with the electronic fence and collar I just open the door and she runs outside. I even put in a doggie door so she can come and go as she pleases. I would highly recommend this to anyone.
